Prior to starting Miller Lane Studio, Thea was a Project Manager for Sparkman & Associates Architects, Inc. in
Knoxville, TN for 17 years. The two disciplines of Architecture and Interior Design were heavily integrated there
which allowed Thea to expand her knowledge of architectural design and construction practices, giving her a
signature design process. She also approaches all projects with a clean, simple and fresh sensibility while
maintaining the spirit of a client’s style. This results in an ideal partnership and design solution.

She received her B.S. in Interior Design from Florida State University and moved to Washington, DC to start
her professional career. She became a Tennessee Registered Interior Designer (#559) in 1994 and a LEED
AP in 2009. Her work has been published in “Kitchen & Bath Design News”, “Signature Kitchens & Baths”,
“Tennessee Homes & Gardens”, and “Iron Illustrated.”

Thea is married to Scott Miller, a professional musician. They live in Staunton with their two dogs and spend
their free time working on the family farm.
Thea has over 25 years experience in Interior Design practice.  Her expertise
includes all phases of the architectural design process, as well as interior detailing,
millwork design, the selection of finishes & furnishings and schedule & budget
management. She has managed a wide range of projects and enjoys having a
variety of design challenges. Thea moves comfortably from $20 million commercial
projects to working with an individual homeowner on a small renovation.  She is an
excellent programmer and space planner. Her belief is that communication is key to
any good design and execution. She also incorporates sustainable design into
every project as a standard of her practice.
